It was the Orioles' first home game in Baltimore since Trump attacked Rep. Elijah Cummings and the city, calling it 'disgusting, rat and rodent infested.'
Scott GleesonFour people were escorted from Baltimore's Camden Yards on Thursday night after unveiling a"Trump 2020" banner during the Orioles-Blue Jays game.
It was the Orioles' first home game in Baltimore since President Donald Trump attacked Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and the city, calling it "disgusting, rat and rodent infested" in a Twitter rant on Saturday. Congressman Cummings represents the 7th District of Maryland, which encompasses Baltimore and its suburbs.
The red, white and blue banner was unfurled in the eighth inning of the Orioles' 11-2 loss to the Blue Jays. It caused a scene, as fans chanted loudly,"Take it down." Less than 10 minutes after unveiling the banner, Baltimore police and stadium officials had it removed before escorting the four fans out of the stadium. Identities of the fans were not released by the Orioles or Baltimore Police Department.
Camden Yards' stadium policy states that no banners can be hung anywhere in a way that would obstruct other fans' views of the game, according to the Orioles' website. Based on the organization's policy, political banners are subject to confiscation and based on the"Orioles' discretion."
