HEALTH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, on Friday, said in a media conference held at the Department of Health (DoH) that all is not lost for nursing board examination flunkers.

This was Herbosa's reaction to a statement of Jose Cueto Jr., chairman of the Professional Regulation Commission , that those who failed the nursing board examination cannot be hired because there is no provision in the Nursing Act that allows that move.Secretary Teodoro Herbosa. Contributed PhotoHerbosa, however, said the government will open its doors to nurses who did not pass the test by employing them as nursing assistants.

'But the PRC is not really against it, there is just a temporary roadblock, but the PRC and the Congress are open to addressing it. The Congress can file a bill, and the President needs to support the bill as urgent,' he said.Herbosa added that 'another option' being considered is to require 'white-coat degree [holders] like doctors and nurses who studied and graduated from state colleges to serve in public hospitals for three years.
