The Department of Health said that its coordination with the World Health Organization would not be affected despite the ouster of WHO’s director for the Western Pacific Region.
The DOH issued the statement after WHO removed Dr. Takeshi Kasai from his position as director for the Western Pacific Region following accusations of misconduct. “The DOH has unwavering confidence in our regional capacity to cohesively address the challenges we are currently experiencing,” it said. The WHO said it received allegations of misconduct against Kasai “during the latter half of 2021 and in 2022.”
