Landa, the dog, was left in the car with the engine and air conditioning running while officers conducted their investigation, police told KVUE. After the female driver was arrested, authorities said a back-up officer remained parked behind the car until Animal Control arrived.At some point, unbeknownst to the officer on the scene, the car turned off. Landa was found dead in the car when animal control arrived. Temperatures in Central Texas on Sunday were around 100 degrees.
Police called Landa’s death “an unfortunate incident” and are investigating to figure out what happened to the suspect’s vehicle. Authorities emphasized that the officer did not turn the suspect’s car off.
