A dog was killed in a townhouse fire Tuesday night in Hillsborough after being trapped on the second floor, officials said. The residents and their neighbors escaped safely after the fire broke out in the basement of a residence on Tall Oak Lane shortly before 10:30 p.m.,The dog was found to be suffering from severe smoke inhalation after firefighters put out the fire and died a short time later.
