EAST BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — A girl who was outside playing was attacked and killed last week by a dog that had wandered into the yard, according to reports.
Sadie Davila was taken to a hospital after the attack at about 6:35 p.m. on Jan. 6 but she died of her injuries, a news release from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office says. “This is an awful, heartbreaking tragedy,” Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said in a statement. “My heart goes out to this family and they will remain in my prayers.”the dog’s owner, Erick Lopez, 20, of East Baton Rouge, has been charged with negligent homicide. Lopez reportedly told police he would let the dog roam unrestrained in the property next door, where the girl was playing when she was attacked.
A police report says Sadie was “viciously attacked” by the dog, reported a pit bull terrier.
