Doctor Who actor David Bradley, who portrayed the new First Doctor, hopes the long-running sci-fi show can continue for several more decades.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Doctor Who actor David Bradley, who portrayed the new First Doctor, hopes the classic show continues for several more decades. Originally launching in 1963, the British science fiction series follows a powerful being known as a Time Lord, as he embarks on various adventures around the universe with different companions using an interdimensional time-traveling ship known as the TARDIS.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com, Bradley, who debuted in season 7 and later returned for the 50th-anniversary docudrama to play the now-deceased Hartnell, revealed that he would like for the classic show to run for several more years. The 81-year-old explained that the show writers can take it anywhere they want to, especially seeing as the concept of regeneration exists in the Doctor Who universe.

“It's just amazing that, I mean, as Hartnell said, there can't be a Doctor Who without the Doctor when he realized he wasn't able to do it anymore, and the idea of regeneration is a brilliant one of course. And it just shows how various regenerations have been, with Jodie, just showing, you can go anywhere with this. I hope it lives for another 60 years."

How Doctor Who Has Managed To Remain Relevant For So Long Since its pilot episode aired on BBC, the show initially ran for an impressive 26 seasons between 1963 and 1989 before taking a 16-year hiatus. After its extensive break, the show returned in 2005, and it has produced 13 new series with a staggering combined 871 episodes as of today. The British show currently stands as the longest-running and most successful science-fiction television series.

Doctor Who's longevity stems from the show's ability to keep the story refreshing and bring in new elements such as gadgets and travel. Furthermore, the show has explored the Time Lord's lore to expand on the character's origins and elevate the relationship between the Doctor and companions. The show has also undergone different adventures, such as traveling through important historical events.
