As David Tennant's Fourteenth Doctor battles the Daleks in the in-canon Doctor Who Magazine 586, the Doctor shows he's impervious to their shots. Is he now immortal, or is Neil Patrick Harris' Toymaker behind this twist? DoctorWho
Warning: contains spoilers for Doctor Who Magazine #586!According to a recent Doctor Who story, it seems the Fourteenth Doctor may secretly be unkillable. Jodie Whittaker's regeneration in the Doctor Who Centenary Special, "The Power of the Doctor," was unlike any in the show's history. The Doctor adopted a very familiar form - the likeness of Tenth Doctor David Tennant.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The Fourteenth Doctor's adventures are continuing in a surprising way. Returning showrunner Russell T. Davies has made no secret of his love for the transmedia side of the franchise, and he's arranged for Doctor Who Magazine to pick up the story from "The Power of the Doctor." The comic strip kicked off in Doctor Who Magazine #584, and the latest issue - #586 - has dropped the most intriguing hints to date.
Is the Toymaker Keeping the Doctor Alive? Surprisingly, though, the newly-regenerated Fourteenth Doctor emerges entirely unscathed. The Dalek shots have absolutely no effect on his body, and he's understandably bewildered - and more than a little delighted. It's unclear why the Doctor is apparently unkillable; it may be something is wrong with these Daleks, or alternatively it's possible the Doctor is currently protected by an outside power.
If an outside force is indeed the culprit, then the most likely culprit is the Celestial Toymaker - the character believed to be played by Neil Patrick Harris in the upcoming Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials. A classic villain, the Toymaker certainly has the kind of power needed to force a regeneration - as well as to protect the Doctor from death. For now, however, it seems Doctor Who just confirmed the Fourteenth Doctor is invulnerable to harm.
