Co-producer Richie Palmer addresses the Illuminati's Marvel Cinematic Universe future after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. 'The Illuminati’s been a group we’ve wanted to introduce in our movies for years.'
After their brutal introduction in the new film, co-producer Richie Palmer opens up about the Illuminati's Marvel Cinematic Universe future following Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. First established by Brian Michael Bendis in the comics, the Illuminati are a secretive group of superheroes formed on the heels of the Kree-Skrull war, with Tony Stark realizing the members of the team could have prevented the war with their combined knowledge of the alien races.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The Illuminati were introduced in the MCU with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Benedict Cumberbatch's titular sorcerer traveled to Earth-838 while saving America Chavez from the Scarlet Witch. The group in the film were comprised of Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier, a different version from Fox's X-Men film franchise, Lashana Lynch's Captain Marvel.
“The Illuminati’s been a group we’ve wanted to introduce in our movies for years. They’re a secret organization that works off the grid. They do the things that the other groups like the Avengers wouldn’t be too happy about… To do it in an alternate universe in the Multiverse, was a really exciting thing because we get to meet a version of this group in this other universe, and then we still might get to see an Illuminati of our main MCU one day, which is also very exciting.
Audiences have been reeling since the Illuminati was swiftly introduced and killed off by the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, namely over the loss of John Krasinski's Mr. Fantastic, a casting choice fans have been campaigning to make happen for years. Despite this, Palmer's tease that the Illuminati still has an MCU future after their deaths in the sequel should come as exciting news for those eager to see more of the secret group.
The original version of the Illuminati in the comics was that of Tony Stark, Reed Richards, Black Bolt, Stephen Strange, Charles Xavier, Black Panther and Namor. While the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Illuminati team featured half of this group, rumors have swirled that Namor will make his MCU debut with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with Tenoch Huerta playing the role and audiences still holding out hope for a Tom Cruise Iron Man casting and Krasinski's return as Mr.
