This is the write way to lose weight. Meal tracking for at least 15 minutes a day proved to be the recipe for success in a new study being published in the journal Obesity’s March issue. Researchers from the University of Vermont tracked 142 participants for six months. The subjects logged their daily food intake online, including what they ate and drank, their portion sizes and how those foods were prepared.

And a 2011 systemic review of the research surrounding self-monitoring in weight loss, which included food diaries, weigh-ins and fitness tracking, also found “a significant association between self-monitoring and weight loss.” It did recommend more research with more diverse populations, however, as the subjects in these studies tended to be white and female.
