Cybersecurity report states compromised official DNC website credentials aggregated by bot service
DNC officials downplayed a ZeroFox cybersecurity report released Wednesday, which claimed there was a data compromise ahead of the Chicago convention.Five days before the Democratic National Convention opens in Chicago, there are fresh concerns over cybersecurity after a recent report said it found some DNC data and credentials on a dark web hacking service.
The ZeroFox report states that, "Operatives identified records associated with 'demconventioncom,' including email addresses and records associated with users registered on the DNC website... Additionally, records related to 'democratsorg' were discovered." DNC officials pushed back on the report strongly, telling the I-Team that the convention's systems remain secure.
DNC officials added that the records referenced in the ZeroFox report were from 2016, are no longer active and were accessed via external websites, not the official DemConventioncom website.ZeroFox provided the I-Team a breakdown of the "compromised credentials across four distinct domains likely related to the DNC and the Democratic Party" that they discovered.
