While the criminal statute of limitations has expired, authorities “hope that this test result will offer additional closure for the Highsmith family,” a Fort Worth police spokesperson said.Her naked body was found in the San Antonio River in 1952. Police are still looking for her killer. Police continue to ask for the public’s help with any additional information concerning Highsmith’s reported abduction in 1971.

Law enforcement and family members initially suspected Highsmith's mother of killing her and concealing evidence, according to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
