2019 BETAwards honor NipseyHussle with powerful tribute
this past Sunday night . The Atlanta veteran was on hand to present Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom, the Humanitarian Award in support of his contributions to his community of Crenshaw before his untimely death in March.
To accept the Humanitarian Award in behalf of Hussle was his girlfriend Lauren London, his parents, his son Kross Asghedom and his grandmother. London's message was sweet and succinct, saying, "I just want to thank you guys for all of the love and support and the marathon continues again," while his mother ruminated on the day that her son passed.
After Hussle's family paid their respects, DJ Khaled, John Legend, Marsha Ambrosius and YG paid homage to theAmbrosius led things off first by performing the hook of Nipsey Hussle's empowering anthem "Real Big" from his Grammy-nominated album. Dressed in white, the singer performed alongside the production crew of 1500 or Nothing, before YG sauntered onto the stage to jump into his Nipsey-led collaboration "Last Time That I Checkk'd.
To punctuate their heartfelt rendition, DJ Khaled returned to the stage after performing earlier on in the night to join John Legend and a choir to perform one of Hussle's last recordings "Higher," with the song's visuals playing in the background. As the audience lifted their peace signs in the air, Hussle's presence was felt, with his verse reverberating throughout the venue.
