The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday upheld the conviction and 6-year sentence for disgraced former Cleveland City Councilman Ken Johnson.
CLEVELAND, Ohio— A federal appeals court on Friday rejected former Cleveland City Councilman Ken Johnson’s attempt to overturn his corruption convictions.that his convictions for fleecing taxpayers and refusing to pay his taxes should be overturned.federal prison sentence.
The court, in a straightforward 33-page ruling, wrote that any errors that Johnson’s or Jamison’s attorneys raised were minimal at best and would not have affected the jury’s decision to find them guilty.and The Plain Dealer reached out to Johnson’s attorney Myron Watson and Jamison’s attorney David Doughten for comment.
The appeals court also rejected arguments that prosecutors used “highly prejudicial” phrasing during questioning and that Adams’ sentence was too harsh. Watson argued Johnson’s sentence should have been less than three years.
