Albert Hughes, who was at one point attached to direct the live-action Akira remake, explains some of the behind-the-scenes troubles of the project.

The original 1988 Akira, based on the manga of the same name, follows the biker Kaneda trying to rescue his friend Tetsuo from being experimented on by the government in Tokyo several decades after a nuclear bomb was dropped on the city by the Japanese government.
Hughes explained the "dirty little secret" behind the production of the movie, including the fact that, even $12 million in, the studio was hiding behind their desire to cast a name for the project.
