It was a gut-wrenching loss for Mississippi State, but they did their job.
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State baseball drops a wild game to Arkansas 7-5 to open this critical series. State fans and players do not want to hear about a moral victory because they had every opportunity to take this game, but they could not have played better in defeat.
Arkansas could not find a reliable arm once Smith exited, so they brought in freshman Christian Foutch. He was the first arm out of the bullpen, and he worked 1.1 innings and threw 22 pitches before handing the ball over to another freshman, Gabe Gaeckle. The Bulldogs did their job by seeing four different bullpen arms, three of which are some of their top arms. The offense left runs on the board as they stranded 13 runners, but their work tonight will pay dividends for the rest of the series.
