Alex Murdaugh Was Convicted Of Murdering Maggie & Paul In 2023 Following a lengthy and high-profile trial that began on January 25, 2023, a jury in South Carolina found Alex Murdaugh guilty of two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime on March 2, as depicted in Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal season 2.

Murdaugh was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for shooting and killing his wife and son on that fateful night in June 2021. The prosecution used circumstantial evidence to prove his guilt, including a video on Paul's phone that showed his father had lied about being at the family's home shortly before the murders.

Alex Murdaugh Filed A Motion Demanding A New Trial According to NBC News, following the guilty verdict, Alex Murdaugh's lawyers filed a motion to seek a new trial for the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh in September 2023. They are accusing Rebecca Hill, the Colleton County clerk of court, of jury tampering and believe she swayed the jury in the direction of finding Murdaugh guilty during the trial. An investigation into the allegations is underway.
