Texas running back Bijan Robinson is averaging 144.3 rushing yards per game and has the Longhorns in the thick of the Big 12 championship race after Saturday’s 49-0 rout of Oklahoma.AUSTIN — Bijan Robinson might have the most disarming personality on campus.
Texas might launch some sort of Heisman hype campaign for Robinson. But right now, coming off last Saturday’s eye-popping 49-0 win over Oklahoma, his only concern is getting ready for this week’s home game against Iowa State . Still, Robinson is the first Longhorn with a legitimate chance of receiving an invite to the New York Downtown Athletic Club’s annual Heisman ceremony since quarterback Colt McCoy finished second in 2008 and third in 2009. Running back D’Onta Foreman rushed for 2,028 yards and 15 touchdowns to score an eighth-place finish in 2016, but he was never going to be a serious contender playing for a sub-.500 Texas team.
Robinson has the third-best offensive grade and seventh-best running grade among all qualified Football Bowl Subdivision halfbacks, according to Pro Football Focus’ grading system. He’s been credited with 49 missed tackles, eight more than any other player, and 480 yards after contact, third-most in the nation.
