'Despacito' star Luis Fonsi making his feature film debut in San Antonio-shot romantic comedy
International pop star Luis Fonsi, pictured outside Centro de Artes at Market Square, makes his feature-film debut in"The Answer to My Prayer," an upcoming Latino romantic comedy set and filmed in San Antonio.An evening breeze jiggled the patio lights of the West Side icehouse Jaime’s Place as patrons in cowboy boots turned from their tables to watch international pop starA member of a mariachi troupe handed Fonsi an acoustic guitar and set a barstool behind a microphone.
“It’s a feel-good film,” Fonsi said a few days later outside the Centro de Artes in Market Square, where filming was continuing. “Where I feel more comfortable is with my guitar in my hand and a microphone in front of me. But when I read the script, I said, 'You know what? I want to be a part of this.’ Not only as an actor but as a producer and as a songwriter. There was a click there.”
“Prayer” is directed by Patrick Perez Vidauri, whose credits include another romantic comedy with Vasquez called"Divorce Bait," and written by Nancy De Los Santos-Reza. She was a writer for"East Los High" and has an associate producer credit on “Selena,” which was shot in San Antonio and starred “Prayer” executive producer Edward James Olmos.
