DeSoto ended rival Duncanville’s 22-game winning streak and halted a 47-game district winning streak for the nation’s sixth-ranked team.

The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but lightning and torrential rain forced it to be postponed until Saturday after the teams waited more than an hour Friday to try and get it in. A flash flood warning was issued Friday night that included DeSoto, and Mathis said the teams discussed the possibility of canceling the game entirely since it won’t affect playoff seeding, but in the end, both sides wanted to play.
Both teams had already clinched playoff berths and can still win state titles for the second year in a row. Duncanville is headed back to the 6A Division I playoff bracket as the No. 1 seed from 11-6A, while DeSoto will once again be in the 6A Division II playoff bracket and will also be a No. 1 seed.
