An official told AP “settling doesn’t give someone a pass” and indicated a lengthy suspension remains in order.
HOUSTON — Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson's decision to settle 20 of 24 civil lawsuits for sexual misconduct may not dissuade the NFL from giving him a lengthy suspension, a person familiar with the league's investigation told the Associated Press on Tuesday.
Following Buzbee's announcement, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the agreements have"no impact on the collectively bargained disciplinary process." The Browns, who signed the three-time Pro Bowler to a fully guaranteed, five-year, $230 million contract in March, had no immediate comment on the settlements.
The settlements also come after The New York Times reported earlier this month that Watson had booked massage appointments with at least 66 different women over 17 months while he played for the Texans. The report said that a Texans representative had provided Watson with a nondisclosure agreement that he gave to some of the women to sign.
Buzbee said that without Solis,"the conduct experienced by these women would likely have continued unfettered." Now, the team is eager to know how long they might be without Watson. The Browns signed veteran backup Jacoby Brissett, who will move into the starting job if Watson is suspended.Maaddi reported from Tampa, Florida. 14. Baltimore — Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah, Jr. The Ravens were beaten by the Rams in a duel for Bobby Wagner's services. Here, the best linebacker in this draft falls right in their lap. The Otay Ranch product can rush the passer , impact the run game and make plays in coverage — he had four interceptions this season. Top needs:DL, CB, C
19. New Orleans from Philadelphia — Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama, Jr. The Saints desperately need someone to stretch the field opposite of Michael Thomas. Williams is a home run hitter with game-breaking speed. He's also a weapon on special teams, as a returner — he returned two kicks for touchdowns in 2021 — and in coverage. The dynamic receiver injured his left knee against Georgia, but still grades out as a first-rounder if his rehabilitation remains on schedule.
24. Dallas — Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia, Jr. Leighton Vander Esch resigned, but the Cowboys still need a linebacker who frees up Micah Parsons to focus primarily on rushing the passer. Luke Gifford isn't it. Murmurings about Dean's size not translating well to the next level have hurt his draft stock. It certainly didn't hurt the Butkus Award winner in the SEC, where the tape showed a dynamic blitzer who is capable of making plays all over the field.
