However, as a genius social media post points out, the two Dennis the Menace franchises have very different philosophies.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In one of the great coincidences of human history, two completely different comic strips under the name Dennis the Menace debuted in March, 1951, both still running today. There is an American one by Hank Ketcham for Post-Hall Syndicate, which stars an adventurous yet well-meaning boy who often gets up to trouble by irritating his neighbor Mr. Wilson.
Dennis Is Very Different Across the Pond While technically speaking unrelated, the two strips demonstrate different methods of instilling values in a young audience, with the American version expounding the virtues of youthful innocence, and the British one providing a cautionary tale for mischievousness run amuck.
Dennis vs Dennis! While the US Dennis the Menace is a child any parent would love to raise, the UK version is a creature of chaos who engages in property damage for laughs and roams the streets in search of adventure. With surreal characters and an anarchic sensibility, it's no surprise that comic legends like Alan Moore and Grant Morrison list The Beano and longtime competitor The Dandy among their formative reading.
