“Rodman was one-dimensional,” added Elliott, the team’s longtime TV analyst after a 12-season NBA career that included helping the Spurs win their first of five NBA titles in 1999.One of those “different things” is his ability to rip down a rebound and then run coast-to-coast, setting up easy transition buckets for himself or his teammates.
Sochan’s high basketball IQ also shows up on defense. At 6-foot-9, 230 pounds, he can guard all five positions effectively, jumping out on the perimeter to contain guards off the dribble but also muscling down low with much bigger frontcourt players. “He comes from a really good program,” Popovich said. “They do a great job and he enjoys guarding different people in different situations. He’s going to be a fine player as time goes on.”
“He’s never going to give up on a play,” Poeltl said. “He’s got the length, and he can keep up with guys. If we learn how to be on one string on defense, we’ll be pretty good.”
