Fans attending the game had a chance to forget about clean-up efforts for a while.

It took the game's opening three minutes before Ryan Clemons scored Deer Park's first bucket. But by halftime, the Deer had turned an 8-2 deficit into a 25-24 intermission lead.Deer Park gave its tornado-weary basketball fans a reprieve from all of the destruction with a 64-55 District 22-6A victory over Pasadena at Watkins Gym Thursday night.

Now 6-1, the team remained tied for first place with South Houston. Pasadena saw its losing streak go to three as the Eagles, once owners of a 3-1 record, are now 3-4. Five teams are in the hunt for a playoff berth but just four advance so the Eagles got a little more comfortable on the bubble with the defeat.

"We started flat. Maybe it was everything happening in the community, but we started rough," Bright said. Pasadena could have used some defensive stops in the fourth period because the Eagles weren't entirely out of the contest. But they were when Isaiah Aguirre connected for two 3-point goals, Josh Anderson scored off an Evan Goodson pass and Martinez-Miller fed Anderson with a pretty baseline feed to keep the lead in double digits.
