Luke Skywalker can't ignore a big villain in an upcoming Star Wars movie, which means Disney will likely deepfake him—and maybe more actors—again.
The concept of “deepfaking” or using CGI to de-age characters has always been a hotly debated topic in Star Wars. One of the first examples of deepfaking a character was in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which used the late Peter Cushing’s visage to bring Grand Moff Tarkin back to the big screen, along with a younger version of Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia at the end of the film.

Unlike his brief cameo at the end of The Mandalorian season 2, deepfake Luke in The Book of Boba Fett was largely praised for how realistic he looked and sounded. Of course, there is still something to be said regarding the ethical implications of endlessly resurrecting old characters.
Luke Skywalker Has To Be In The Mandalorian Movie Dave Filoni’s The Mandalorian movie is expected to cover Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return to the Star Wars universe similarly to how Timothy Zahn did in his Heir to the Empire book series. Even though the movie will likely follow Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin—alongside his adorable adopted son, Din Grogu—taking on Thrawn’s resurgent Empire, Luke Skywalker will almost certainly make an appearance.
Unless Lucasfilm is able to cook up an unlikely reason as to why Luke can’t come help take down Thrawn in The Mandalorian movie, he will have to make an appearance. Furthermore, Luke being in the movie would continue The Mandalorian’s cameo trend of relying on established characters, rather than focusing solely on the show’s protagonists.
