MANILA, Philippines — The cards are stacked in favor of national volleyball team Alas Pilipinas after a strong 2-0 start in the AVC 2024 Challenge Cup.
But it was not luck that gave the Philippines its win against Australia and India, behind these victories is the wit and grit of veteran ace setter and team captain Jia De Guzman . After a similar finish from their opening game versus Australia, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-2, the Philippines also dropped the first set against India, 22-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-18, last Friday, May 24. The team captain shared how she is proud of her squad for doing in-game adjustments.
'They bring a different kind of power, different kind of fire and energy inside the court that made us seniors also have the same drive. It is really a good mix of fire, energy, and composure inside the game especially we're really working on our endgames right now.'Despite dropping the first sets of their two previous won games, De Guzman looks forward to lessening their errors.
