A father in Washington, D.C., says a fatal stabbing at Petworth Neighborhood Library that unfolded Thursday night happened near his children.
The Metropolitan Police Department said a suspect is in custody after the public disarmed the individual inside the Petworth Neighborhood Library.
Benedict said the victim was seated at a computer and that the public"undoubtedly" helped prevent further harm by disarming the suspect, who as of Friday has not yet been publicly identified. "This location is open to the public, it is very unfortunate this happened tonight with other people in there," he said.
In a statement, the library said in consideration of"staff who were present during this traumatic event, the Petworth Library will remain closed through Sunday March 5 and will reopen Monday March 6."
