Daniel Radcliffe is flattered fans want him to play a more comic-accurate Wolverine in the MCU, but he's not so sure he's Marvel's top pick. 'I don't see myself, I don't see them going from Hugh Jackman to me. But who knows? Prove me wrong, Marvel.'
Daniel Radcliffe reacts to the popular online support for him as a comics accurate short Wolverine. In the comics, Wolverine's height is 5ft 3, which made the casting of 6ft 3 Hugh Jackman a controversial choice when he was cast in 2000's X-Men. However, Jackman won over audiences in the role that he continued to play for seventeen years up to the release of Logan, the actor's final time in the iconic role.
With the acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney meaning the X-Men will join the MCU, speculation began immediately on who would play Wolverine in a potential MCU film. While currently there has been no official X-Men announcement, it was recently confirmed Shawn Levy would direct Deadpool 3 and Patrick Stewart is set to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in an all but confirmed appearance as Professor X.
"So many times, people come to me like, 'hey man, heard the Wolverine news, that's pretty cool.' No, I don't know anything about it. Like, I appreciate that somebody is clearly going like 'Wolverine's actually short in the comic books, you should get like a short guy to do it!' But I don't see myself, I don't see them going from Hugh Jackman to me. But who knows? Prove me wrong, Marvel.
After the ten years of playing Harry Potter, Radcliffe has largely stayed away from franchise roles, instead going for smaller films like the surreal comedy Swiss Army Man, the romantic comedy What If, and he was recently cast as Weird Al Yankovic in an upcoming biopic. Interestingly this is a similar career path Radcliffe's co-star and contemporary Robert Pattinson took before taking on the iconic role of Batman in the highly acclaimed and box office smash The Batman.
Wolverine has always been one of Marvel's most popular characters, although it does appear the character is getting a bigger push in recent years. Marvel Comics is currently running a comic event series X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine, which focuses on key moments from the character's past. Insomniac is developing a Wolverine video game, yet no date is currently set.
