Damage from an over-height vehicle traveling on Route 206 that hit a New Jersey Turnpike bridge in Bordentown will cost over $5 million to permanently fix.
Turnpike Authority commissioners approved two contracts on Tuesday to make emergency repairs to the span that carries Interchange 7 ramps over Route 206. They approved a $5 million contract for the work with Ferreira Construction Company, Inc., Branchburg, and a $750,000 contract with ATANE Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors, P.C. Edison, for construction supervision services.
“An over height vehicle on Route 206 south hit the authority’s overpass, causing significant damage to the north fascia beam and three interior beams,” said Robert Fischer, authority chief engineer. The impact resulted in closing the ramps for traffic exiting the turnpike and the southbound lanes of Route 206 so temporary repairs could be made to preserve the structural integrity of the bridge. Damage included bends and cracks in three of the four beams
Interchange 7 in Bordentown is closed to EXITING traffic until further notice. An over-height truck struck the bridge that carries the ramps connecting the Turnpike to southbound Route 206 on Thursday night. The interchange remains open to traffic ENTERING the Turnpike.
