The analysis from the city’s emergency management office pointed out more than two dozen areas to address in the response to future winter storms, including updating some emergency plans and equipping more city vehicles to drive on icy roads. The recommendations also included finding other ways to shut down roadways instead of relying on police patrol cars, considering alternatives to using sand to prevent streets from icing over, and more clear communication ahead of time about when city facilities will be open and closed as well as where resources related to helping the homeless population will be located.
