The Department of Agriculture said over the weekend it lifted the temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds from Belgium and France after both countries were cleared by the World Animal Health Organization of Animal Health as bird flu-free.
The DA received reports that there were no additional bird flu outbreaks in Belgium since Feb. 21, 2024 and in France since Feb. 24, 2024. The lifting of the ban in the two European countries followed similar actions by the DA on American poultry.The DA recalled import restrictions on the states of Iowa and Minnesota in March 2024, but it maintained the poultry ban on the states of California and Ohio.The US continues to be a major source of poultry products for the Philippines with total exports of poultry meat and products reaching $180.5 million in 2023.
