Here is what you need to know about this storm, including where it is now, the forecast and some perspective on how unusual this storm may be.Cyclone Freddy was the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane as of Monday morning .: Freddy is forecast to move west-southwest into Madagascar by Tuesday evening , likely as a Category 3 or stronger cyclone.

According to NOAA's best track database, of all cyclones in the southern Indian Ocean that became at least Category 1 intensity,: This cyclone struck Madagascar as a Category 1 storm, then rapidly intensified to Category 4 intensity before striking central Mozambique. It continued into Zimbabwe before its remnant continued into northern Botswana and Namibia, an exceptionally long track inland over southern Africa.
