The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter is offering $20 adoptions this weekend to make room for an expected influx of dogs over the Fourth of July holiday.

For $20, Cuyahoga County residents can welcome a new pet to their home this weekend. CLEVELAND, Ohio –

The shelter typically charges $95 fees, but it is offering the reduced rate Friday through Sunday as part of its 6th annual Adopt-a-Palooza event. The funds cover spaying or neutering, vaccines, microchipping, a current rabies tag, and an annual dog license. Adoptions are available from 10:30 a.m. to 4 pm on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday from 12 to 4:00 p.m.

“Every year we see our largest intake of dogs around the 4th of July holiday,” Mindy Naticchioni, animal shelter administrator, said in a news release. “In preparation for the dogs we know we will be coming in after the holiday, we hope to find as many loving homes as possible for our current adoptable dogs.”

She encouraged residents to keep their pets inside over the holiday weekend, because fireworks can be distressing to animals. Every year, nationwide, thousands of dogs get loose and run away from home amid the loud festivities and end up at shelters.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
