During a press briefing, the New York governor reported an alarming infection rate and requested more federal aid.

... [+]New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said in a press conference on Tuesday that there are now nearly 26,000 reported coronavirus cases in the state, as he again urged the federal government to use the Defense Production Act to mobilize resources and provide crucial supplies.

As of Tuesday, the state now has 25,665 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with some 4,700 new ones reported overnight. The hospitalization rate for COVID-19 in New York rose to 23%. The governor called it “inexplicable” that the federal government hasn’t sent more ventilators to New York, which has become far and away the epicenter of the pandemic with exponentially more cases than in any other state so far.
