CLEVELAND, Ohio — Criminal charges filed in the last week against two 14-year-old Cleveland boys underscore the scourge of thefts targeting certain Kia and Hyundai cars that social media unlocked last summer.

“This is what happens when car manufacturers cut corners and don’t provide consumers with cars equipped with adequate anti-theft measures, just to make a profit,” O’Malley said. “This could have all been prevented.”Hyundai has said in previous statements that key anti-theft measures have been standard in all of its models since 2022.
