The event was canceled after the foundation behind the tradition failed to raise the necessary funds to keep up with rising prices and fewer donations. The event had been scheduled for Jan. 27. The annual event, which signals the start of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, is expected to return in 2024 thanks to a new partnership with WellMed Medical Group."The Cowboy Breakfast Foundation is announcing today that the 2023 event will not be happening," the Cowboy Breakfast Foundation wrote in a news release.
There has not been a full Cowboy Breakfast since the pandemic began in 2020, with tacos handed out to first responders in 2022 and nonprofits in 2021.
