Willie Nelson and Melissa Etheridge announced they will not perform this weekend at the New Orleans Jazz Festival because of positive COVID cases in their bands or touring crews.
Nelson also cancelled shows on Friday in Franklin, Tenn., and Saturday in Brandon, Miss.she would not perform Saturday at Jazz Fest “due to COVID hitting my crew.” Mavis Staples performed in her place.
“Oh my heart hurts not to be there. Mavis will be amazing, I know. I am hoping I can be asked back again. ... Thank you for all the well wishes. COVID heartbreak,” EtheridgeEtheridge canceled a Thursday show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and a Friday show in Memphis. NOLA.com reported that George Porter Jr., the bassist with the New Orleans band The Meters, will not perform this weekend because he has COVID. He had performed multiple times during the previous weekend.
Tens of thousands of people attend the annual festival, a celebration of music and culture at the Fair Grounds Race Track in New Orleans. This year’s festival started April 29 and ends Sunday.
