A couple was found dead inside their Mount Vernon home in what police believe was a murder-suicide. As AstridTV1 reports, the couple's three young daughters were home at the home.
The children were not injured.
As CBS2's Astrid Martinez reports, the couple lived in the house for more than four years, and the mayor of Mount Vernon say police believe this was a murder-suicide."It's sad. Once I found out that it was a couple and both of them are dead and the three kids involved, that's really sad," neighbor Eddie Jones said.
Early Sunday morning, police found the couple dead in their home with apparent gunshot wounds. Their names have not yet been released. "We've been talking about mass shootings and regular shootings all around the country, and to be awakened by a phone call from my chief of police, I knew that it was not good news. And to understand, you know, how the incident unfolded, it was just very heartbreaking," Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard said."Well, the guy was a quiet guy. His wife was quiet," neighbor Mickey Challis said.
"That's horrible. I mean, 'cause that's going to be something that's going to last with them probably a lifetime in some way or form, so it's horrible that the kids had to go through that," Jones said.The mayor says the city is providing the family and children with mental health resources at the moment.Thanks for reading CBS NEWS.
