The system in the Gulf became Tropical Storm Helene at 11 a.m. Tuesday and is expected to rapidly intensify as it moves north through the Gulf of Mexico. The current track has it becoming a major hurricane before making landfall along Florida’s Panhandle, likely sometime Thursday.The district already had an early release day scheduled Wednesday, but all after-school activities for Wednesday are canceled. The after school care options for elementary and middle schools will continue on Wednesday, but parents are encouraged to pick up their children as early as they can after school to prepare for the storm.
