A new candidate has entered the race to be Jacksonville’s mayor.
She promised to be a transparent leader and stressed her opposition to raising gas taxes.
“Jacksonville can get moving without it always coming at the expense of higher taxes,” Cumber stated in a press release. “That is why I opposed the increased sales tax in 2019, and I opposed the doubling of the gas tax twice last year.”She also highlighted her goal to develop downtown Jacksonville. “We really need to create a climate downtown where people want to invest... All over the country and all over the world,” Cumber said.
The election is scheduled to be held in 2023. Jacksonville’s current mayor, Lenny Curry, has served two terms and is ineligible to run for reelection. The current 2023 candidates for mayor are now Leanna Cumber , Omega Allen , Donna Deegan , Al Ferraro , and Darcy G. Richardson .
