When the Cougars were near the goal-line in the second overtime, backup Brandon Campbell was being evaluated on the trainer’s table and No. 1 back Ta’Zhawn Henry had left earlier in the game after he aggravated his ankle injury. That left the Cougars with third-stringer Stacey Sneed. It’s been dose after dose of bad news in the backfield, which lost star back Alton McCaskill, who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns as a true freshman, to a torn ACL late in spring practice.
“I’m very critical of our offensive line and we ain’t moving people so we can’t run the ball.” Holgorsen said he was pleased with Campbell, who had 80 yards on 16 carries. “He gets tough yards,” Holgorsen said. “Hope he is all right. We ain’t got many more .”A bright spot for the Cougars was the play of defensive end Derek Parish. His stat line: 10 tackles, four sacks, six tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Parish played for the second game with a protective cast on his right hand.
