TODAY'S EDITORIAL: Corruption, again
POPULAR culture and social media are awash with scenes and images of corruption in the Philippines, usually seen as being at very serious levels. The Global Corruption Index compiled and published in January this year by Global Risk Profile tells a no better story for our country.In the GCI that was released a fortnight ago, the Philippines ranked 105th out of 196 countries and territories ranked by the perceived levels of corruption.
Again, even among the Asean countries, we are also 'medium term' in terms of corruption.Norway topped the GCI ranking this year as least at risk of corruption, up from second place last year, followed by Finland, Sweden, Denmark — which ranked first last year — and Estonia — which ranked sixth overall in 2021.In another Corruption Perceptions Index released by Transparency International in January this year, the Philippines placed 117th, down from 116th last year.
