Tokyo on November 19, 2019. - Nintendo opens the doors this week at its first brick-and-mortar store in Tokyo, offering everything from Super Mario mugs to Zelda handbags at a complex targeting visiting gamers and local enthusiasts.
Last summer, Nintendo began moving some of its production out of China and into Vietnam in order to diversify and mitigate risk—possibly due to Trump's trade war that levied tariffs against imported goods—but most of its hardware is still made in China. Nintendo last month announced the Switch had shipped 52 million units since its launch in March 2017, almost four times as much as its previous console, the Wii U.
Nintendo isn't the only major game manufacturer in China, as Microsoft and Sony also produce Xbox and PlayStation in the country.The coronavirus has killed more than 560 people and its affects have reverberated through a number of industries, including gaming. Activision Blizzard, which begins its regionally playedLeague this weekend, were forced to delay matches meant to be held in China through March due to the virus.
