A suspect in the disappearance of Guillen, whose remains were found in a shallow grave, faced a judge Monday morning. WASHINGTON — A post office in southeast Houston will now bear the name of Army Spc. Vanessa Guillén, an addition to the legacy of the soldier whose death sparked a movement to reform the military justice system.
“This local post office building will now provide Houston area residents with another special way to remember our local hero SPC Vanessa Guillén in our everyday lives," said U.S. Rep. Sylvia Garcia, a Houston Democrat who pushed the legislation with Republican U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn. Guillén, a Houston native, told friends and family that she was harassed by a sergeant on the base in the weeks before she was killed in 2020. Army Spc. Aaron David Robinson, who authorities believe killed Guillén after harassing her, shot and killed himself as police tried to arrest him. Robinson's former girlfriend, Cecily Ann Aguilar, pleaded guilty last year on charges connected to the murder, including making a false statement.
