Restrictions some countries have introduced in response to China’s Covid-19 surge are “understandable”, given the lack of information from Beijing, the head of the World Health Organization said Thursday.

GENEVA, Switzerland – WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged China to be more forthcoming on the pandemic situation in the country.

“In the absence of comprehensive information from China, it is understandable that countries around the world are acting in ways that they believe may protect their populations. China said this week it would end mandatory quarantine on arrival, prompting many Chinese to make plans to travel abroad.
