The pandemic-induced boom of hand sanitizer production in the U.S. — which saw companies like Coca-Cola, Tito's Vodka, and thousands of small-scale distilleries rush to make the product in 2019 — will shift gears as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reimposes tougher guidelines for manufacturers in 2022....
The FDA said Tuesday that now that consumers are no longer having a difficult time securing hand sanitizer from traditional suppliers, the agency willCompanies that began producing hand sanitizer during the pandemic will be permitted to continue manufacturing in 2022 if they comply with the FDA’s previous regulations.
Any hand sanitizer produced under the relaxed guidelines before December 31, 2021 must be sold to wholesalers or retailers no later than March 31, 2022, the FDA said.
