The Comelec has started printing ballots for the 2025 national and local elections and has notified the Supreme Court of this development. This step aims to ensure transparency and prevent any issues similar to those faced in the previous election.
The Commission on Elections ( Comelec ) has informed the Supreme Court (SC) about the start of printing the official ballots for the 2025 national and local elections (NLE). Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia said this is to keep the SC updated on the preparations for the midterm polls. Garcia stated that the Comelec will begin printing ballots on January 6th.
He emphasized that this communication aims to avoid a repeat of the previous election, where the Comelec faced criticism for not informing the SC about its preparations. Garcia clarified that the Comelec's intention is not to influence the SC's rulings on pending cases. Individuals with final and executory decisions against their candidacy will be excluded from the ballot. However, if they obtain a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) from the SC, the Comelec will comply and include their names. Garcia explained that the Comelec considers cases with final and executory decisions as disqualifying for ballot inclusion
