DeVaughn Morgan, 24, was taken into custody Saturday and charged with one count of murder in the death of 17-year-old Yazmink Speer last week.
Columbus police have arrested and charged a man in the shooting death last week of a 17-year-old girl at an apartment complex on the Southeast Side.
Columbus police were dispatched at 5:14 p.m. Thursday to the 4600 block of Refugee Road on a report of a shooting, according to a prepared media release from the Columbus Division of Police. The location of the shooting was the site of the Commons at the Waters Edge apartments, located on Refugee Road east South Hamilton Road and west of Noe Bixby Road.Once on scene, officers found the teenage Speer with a gunshot wound on her upper body, according to the affidavit.
Morgan was identified as a suspect and was questioned by homicide detectives. According to the detective who signed the affidavit, Morgan changed his story multiple times while being questioned, but admitted to placing the handgun inside the apartment and then selling it the day after Speer died.Family of slain Columbus mother of three seeks answers for December shooting on North Side
