Jagged boulders and growing crack prompt warnings at Steamer Lane.
SANTA CRUZ — A cliff on the Steamer Lane side of Lighthouse Point collapsed last week, leaving a hazard for surfers and a foreboding crack along the edge of the point.
Thorpe said that the pile of jagged rocks is right in the path of those who like to surf close to the point. Sentinel columnist and UC Santa Cruz professor Gary Griggs said the cliff at Lighthouse Point is made from Purisima Formation mudstone, which cracks and fissures over time.
