The potential for Cocaine Bear 2 gets addressed by screenwriter Jimmy Warden with an absolutely bizarre and unlikely sequel suggestion.
The screenwriter for Cocaine Bear has some wild ideas for a sequel. Cocaine Bear director Elizabeth Banks explores the story of a gigantic black bear after she incidentally consumes a ridiculous amount of cocaine. Driven out of its senses, the bear rages across the forest, wreaking havoc everywhere she goes as humans desperately try to fend her off. Remarkably, Cocaine Bear is based on a true story of a black bear who really did find itself ingesting cocaine.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with Variety, screenwriter Jimmy Warden teased a wild idea for a Cocaine Bear follow-up movie that even threw his interviewer for a loop. Check out his quote below: "Yeah, for sure. Not just a sequel. Many sequels. 'Cocaine Bear in Space' is where we would probably end... No, I’m f*cking with you about 'Cocaine Bear Goes to Space.' But for the sequels, I definitely have ideas for that. The bear’s not the bad guy in this movie. What happened is a product of circumstance and everybody else’s poor decisions. I think that is a story that we can continue to tell over and over again.
With both Banks and Warden teasing sequels even before the movie's release, it appears that interest in a follow-up is remarkably high. To make a sequel more likely, the creators don't necessarily need any specific actors to sign up for the next project, as the movie's star is little more than a drugged bear. With Cocaine Bear's titular bear having been driven largely by her need for cocaine, the creators can essentially use any large predator in a follow-up movie.
Banks already hinted at an interest in a movie about a shark ingesting cocaine, though she admits it may be too similar to Jaws. Still, with so many gory death scenes in Cocaine Bear, Cocaine Shark could be an interesting concept. Whether Cocaine Bear launches out into space or another animal entirely finds a stash of cocaine, interest exists in a follow-up, and it all hinges on Cocaine Bear's success.
